are there differences between a 45 and a 37 intake manifold. My Schebler carb seems to just hit the heads on my 45 and I was wondering if I have the wrong manifold? I have invested in machining, Peek seals and plating so is there a way to pack it to fit?

Fit very tight , Pete. If carb or manifold has been faced off at the joint , or you have a later linkert float bowl, you may need to make a packing piece to go between the carb and manifold joint faces, and find some longer screws. We used to make them at around 1/4 " inch thick, but its too time consuming and not financially viable to sell. WIll ask around if anyone else does. Have a go yourself, not too hard.

The 37ci manifold is a bit longer than the 45ci manifold. 37ci is 3-1/4" tall from carb surface to the dip in the "Y" 45ci is 3-1/16". The intake is 1" on the 45 and 15/16" on the 37ci. The main tube outer diameter is equal thick on the 45, about 1-1/4" but a bit smaller and conical (or tapered) on the 37ci.

Making a 1/4" packing piece should be easy but finding longer screws with that strange angle countersink is not going to be so easy.

Hi Peter, if you cant find the correct type screws, use normal ones, but turn up tapered collars on a lathe to fit under the screw heads.

perhaps Indian or HD use longer ones on some bikes ?

after some snooping around on the internet it looks like Harley 4 speed top cover screws are 1/4"-24 and you can buy a set here. They even look like they might have the correct countersink and they are 9/16" long.

    Update:

The Harley transmission top cover plate screws came and work great as longer manifold screws. They have the same 1/4-24 thread and weird angle countersink. While I was making an order I also ordered Pre 68 HD 1/4-24 nut pack 6 nuts and washers for 8 bucks :) Colony #8110-12

Thanks for that! I was looking around and found another interesting bolt. The bolt that holds the saddle spring to the spring plate is kind of special, square base with a shallow smooth head, and it looks kind of similar as in this set J&P Part: 620-726. It's an expensive set and the size isn't noted in the set, so it isn't a recommendation to buy, only for comparasion...

For those that look for a bolt like that I am sure Walker Machine or some other experienced restorer might have or can recommend a source.
