Fork Bell Crank Nut

The outside nuts on my '29 fork bell crank studs are 1/2-24 flat nuts.  There's a hole in the threaded portion of the stud for a cotter pin, that is useless with flat nuts (photo attached).  I assume there should be a castellated nut used there.

Carl-Erik's fine drawing on page 17A of the R&O shows the T1690T flat nut.  Walker Machine's catalog also shows a N1690P castellated nut for '22 - early '25 Scouts.  Anybody know if this nut is 1/2-24 and is the appropriate fastener for my application?

    Thanks,

    John

Hi John, originally, no, your nut is correct, does seem strange, but attached below is pic of Wayne Carini's very original 28 scout. There is a spacer inside the fender brace ( unless you haev the export front stand ), and a washer ( lock ? ) outside. The split pin will stop the nut moving FAR.

Thanks for the photos and clarification, Tim.  Those parts missing from my bike would certainly change things...
