tank decals (again)

Not certain which set of decals to use on my tank.  See the picture attached and you'll find three different decals I've collected!  To my eye, the lettering on the two water transfer decals look to be "too chubby" (or thick).  The Walker Machine decal looks the best, but it's a vinyl sticker... albeit very thin but I worry that it will sit on top of the paint too much.

I'd appreciate any input you can offer with your experience using tank decals... good or bad!  Thanks!

    Hey Harry,
I'm not into what style looks more original or not, but I can say that in my own experience the vinyl stickers doesn't work that good when you have to put a clear paint on top of it. It's too thick for that. I often have this problem with Norton logos on antique tanks.
I prefer to use the waterslides from Mark (Crazy Horse Australia).
    All the best

Well, the water slides shown will sit better on the tank, but in the end make your bike look like a 1980s comic strip. The vinyl ones will stand out a little, but in my opinion, still look way better, they are a  correct to original script.

Your call, personally, I would rather have a custom water slide Chief head decal over the incorrect chubby ones, and the correct vinyl over both. Below attached is a 31 vinyl decal, the same type of vinyl sold by Walkers, with clear over it.

Thanks Manny and Tim!  Manny, the Crazyhorse decals I have are actually vinyl, quite nicely done but still more like a sticker than a waterslide.

And Tim, thanks for the picture, it shows exactly what I'm worried about...a graphic that sits off the surface of the tank versus being almost painted onto the tank as they might have appeared originally.

I'm being too "picky" perhaps, but I have a very nice new paint job and I don't want to "shortchange it" by applying a graphic that appears to be a sticker when it wasn't made that way originally.

The Walker decal looks best, if only it were a waterslide!

As I understand it, Randy actually has a signwriter paint the decals on his restorations to avoid this issue.

...just to wrap this up, I found a set of waterslide decals that I'm going to use.  They're a tiny bit fatter than the Walker vinyl stickers, but not as chubby as the others.  I pretty much decided that I only wanted to use waterslide.  (...and I've got some of my "rejects" to pass along if anyone is interested)

Picture shows the very nice Walker vinyl stickers on the top compared to the waterslides I'm going to use:

Looks good. Can you say where from where you obtained these waterslide decals?

    Thanks

These waterslide decals came from John Berry in Davenport, Iowa.  No website and he didn't reply to e-mails...so I phoned him at 563-370-0881 .  He was referred to me by Rick Simpson of Rick's decals (ricksdecals03@gmail.com )

    Hope that helps!
