Princess Sidecar

After a long break I am at last working on the 101 again. I bought a sidecar but it turned out so rough under the filler that I decided to make a new one.

It is based roughly on the Princess model and by the end of the week I should have the basic frame completed. Frame is in 3/4" square tube. 16 gauge. (1/16")

I have a choice of what material I will use to panel it up. Steel, alloy or even plywood, or a mixture of the three.. Trickiest parts so far are the curved ends.

Front now done with some difficulty but I have a better idea for the rear. (I hope.!!) The hardest parts will be the door and the trunk lid, but at least I have the old body to copy. Will update as I do the work.

Hi Ken, thanks for the offer.

I made a bit more progress today and the door recess frame is nearly done and I have now started to make the door. I have to allow 1/8" plus round the edges as the 16 Gauge skin will fold in where the door closes.

Now relaxing with a cup of char and cookies.

Made a bit of progress last week. The frame is ready for cladding and I have a choice of 18 Gauge steel or alloy. Not sure yet which way to go. The frame is pretty light and I can lift it no problem. I made a door latch in brass and copied an old original latch which was worn out. The door hinges are all adjustable so I can get a good fit with the body. I would like to make a wind shield but need to study old sidecar photos first. Any help here would be welcome.
