Measurement for 1928 101 Rear Mudguard

    Hi all,

Would one of you fellows be kind enough to run a tape measure (fabric type would be best - wouldn't want to damage paint) along your 1928 rear mudguard, if you have a genuine guard fitted. Mine is being created from scratch.

If you look at the attached picture (in PDF format) - I am looking for a reference measurement from:

The bolt hole in the rear mudguard that is attached to the 1/4" plate under the seat.

To the center line of the roughly vertical mudguard stay.

The reason being that the shop manual shows measurements to the rear of the mudguard - Mine needs some cutting off the rear end to make it correct so the shop manual doesn't give the info I need.

Also - the shop manual states 18.5" from aforementioned stay to the end of the mudguard - just want to make sure this is correct before I get out the saw.

I'm sure someone can help, please.

    Many thanks Mick

Mick, here's what I have and hopefully we'll get some others to compare because my fender has lived a rough life, and so who knows if it's close anymore!

Hi Mick! My 1928 rear fender has the centerline of the vertical stays in the same location as Harry's, at 18-7/8" from the rear edge. I can't tell you where the generator plate mounting hole was - it was worn out to about 3/4" in diameter when I got it. I've welded in new metal but haven't drilled it yet. It looks like the center of the hole in the generator plate is in the same location as in Harry's picture, 35-1/2" from the rear edge.

Hope this helps a little! And Harry, thanks for sharing your fender pictures!

    Dave

Mick my '28 rear fender has the centerline of the vertical stays @ 18 3/4" from the rear fender edge. The front measurement you show on your drawing is 16 3/4" on my fender

These are the measures I have for my unhinged rear fender. But of course it can be differences, as there was different versions of unhinged and hinged fenders in factory production.

There is pre 101 short frame fenders even some with hinges, Four fenders, standard 101 unhinged fenders. And then you have a few different hinge positions, short hinged fenders in some variants and standard long hinged fenders apart from the Chief fenders that always are hinged but I think are a bit taller than 101's...

I may be mistaken but it looks like the white bike has a shorter fender than hinged std.long.
