Former Treasurer and all-around nice guy Rockwell Rookey's family is selling his 1928 101 Scout and other items via  Jacquierauctions.com

There are no details posted yet.  If anybody sees that they've updated the auction details, please post a reply here.  It would be fantastic to keep his bike in the Association.

There will be a viewing this Sunday in Southwick, Mass.

16 klaus anderson rd, southwick, ma

I hear the auction will be online only, and possibly finishing early/mid next week

Rocks bike was built as a rider, and altho pretty, is not show quality, there are numerous stinless steel fasteners etc. However, it is ready to ride. If anyone wants any more info on the bike, contact me, I built it.

His 48 Chief is also for sale, a nice rider too.

The auctioneer's website shows a "price realized" of $28,500 for the 101 Scout and $16,000 for the '47 Chief. Both are below what I remember as the minimum bid requirement during the auction. Does anyone know if these were the actual selling prices?

If so, both seem like bargains to me. Maybe the fact that there was no shipping available for any of the sale items kept prices so low. Too bad for the estate.

Hi Dave, yes, low. They dropped the opening bids a couple of hours before the closing on a lot of the bikes as little interest. Thats auctions for you, a lot of the other stuff got better prices than I expected, but maybe a medium sized local auction house with only a few days prior warning and a less than expansive description might have something to do with it. The auction house generally did a pretty good job at short notice, and a couple of local guys got bargain Indians. Buyers of both Indians live within 20 miles of auction.
